“I am deeply saddened to see the tragic events unfold in Sierra Leone these past two days. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this horrific tragedy. I was there just a few weeks ago and had been impressed with how they had bounced back from the Ebola crisis and were now focussed on new projects, such as delivering energy to more households. It is devastating to see the people of the country again face such difficulties.

“But I am confident in the President’s ability to deal with the crisis and echo his call for help, urging the international community to provide support to the people of Sierra Leone, both in the immediate search and rescue effort and in the aftermath to help the families of those affected.”
