Melat joined TBI the Tony Blair Institute in July 2016. She has worked in the communication work stream for the first six months and later joined the team at the Prime Minister’s Office, providing support to the export monitoring unit. She supported the Prime Minister’s Office and different implementing institutions in identifying and addressing sector specific and crosscutting constraints that contribute to low export performance of selected sectors (textile, leather, livestock processing, horticulture and coffee).
Melat had also worked with the Rwanda TBI team from May to December 2018, supporting the Rwanda Development Board on its ‘Investment Accelerator’ initiative. She worked on promoting and facilitating investments in agriculture and agro-processing sectors in Rwanda. She also worked on building the capacity of staff to insure sustainability of the project.
After Rwanda, Melat returned to Ethiopia and continued her support to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) since January 2019. She has been supporting the Prime Minister's Office on setting up performance monitoring systems and is also providing policy support on topics related to export and market linkage.
Prior to TBI, Melat has been working at Ernst & Young for close to six years and was a Manager in the Business and Transaction Advisory department. She has experience in providing consulting services in performance improvement, project appraisal, and transaction facilitation.
