Sandun specialises in global insecurity, counter-terrorism, and the divides between state and society. He developed the Global Extremism Monitor, the world’s first research operation to explore Islamist militancy and state and non-state efforts to counter it. His work has spanned Africa, the Middle East and East Asia, including conflict-settings and fragile states. Sandun’s work has helped inform policy and government strategy, and his research has featured in international outlets including The Times, Al Arabiya and the Washington Post.
