How to Run a Government

Speaking with Michael Barber, at an event hosted by the Strand Group at King’s College, London, Mr Blair said “A lot of government today is not ideological. It is about practical solutions. It is about working out what is going to make a real difference in the modern world. It is about knowing about the new ideas and innovations which are out there. For example, the impact of technology on the whole of the private sector has been absolutely revolutionary, and in the next years, it is going to be even more revolutionary. It would be bizarre if that made no difference to how government works.”

Mr Barber has recently published a book on effective government "How to Run a Government so that Citizens Benefit and Taxpayers Don't Go Crazy".

The work described here was carried out by the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative, it is now being continued by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
