Mr Blair will be in Rwanda to join AGI staff in showing solidarity with the country during the commemoration of the 20th year since the genocide. He will highlight the country’s remarkable progress in recent decades. Rwanda continues to make significant progress in realising its ambition to raise average incomes to $1000 a year and become a middle-income country by 2020.
Mr Blair will also hold meetings with Prime Minister Hailemariam of Ethiopia to discuss AGI’s work, including its role in the Power Africa initiative which will establish electricity connections for at least 20 million people across the continent in the next five years.
The work described here was carried out by the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative, it is now being continued by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
