Many Congratulations to Keir and Angela. The UK faces an unprecedented situation. It is an extraordinary time to take on the responsibility of providing a coherent and effective opposition which can hold the Government to account.
But it is also a highly motivating challenge to show what a principled and forward-looking Labour Party, dedicated to the interests of the British people, can do at a time of national emergency.
There is a huge interest – both for the Party and more important the country – that this new Labour leadership succeeds.
I wish them well in the immediate task of responding to the Covid 19 crisis; and in the longer term task of rebuilding the Labour Party as a serious and effective candidate for Government, in which they will have my full support.
