Education, Education, Education: Our Submission to the Times Commission

Commentary8th June 2021

Today, in a collaboration with Lord Adonis, the Tony Blair Institute publishes a submission to the Times Education Commission. The Commission brings together experts, with a wide-ranging remit, to look at how the country creates the education system it needs.

The submission brings together lessons from the New Labour years and what has happened since 2010, and goes on to make recommendations for how we shape the UK’s future education system.

It recommends the UK reinvesting in the education sector, linking this with deep reform, with a particular focus on left-behind areas. The overall focus of these changes would be helping prepare the country for the tech revolution.

The document was shaped by Tony Blair and Lord Adonis, with support from a cross-cutting team at the Institute, bringing together colleagues from the Political team, the Technology and Public Policy team and the UK Policy team.

Mr Blair and Lord Adonis gave oral evidence to support the document today, with a transcript and clips of this session published on the Times website

Additional contributors to the submission include: Daniel Sleat; Brianna Miller; Alexander Iosad; Rosie Beacon; Steve Coulter
