Statement on the European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR)

Statement7th April 2022

Following the government’s announcement that Moshe Kantor has been added to the sanctions list, the Tony Blair Institute will have no further involvement with the European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR) and Mr Blair will no longer be co-chair.

The ECTR was set up by Dr Kantor, who is President of the European Jewish Congress. Mr Blair became honorary chair in 2015 and the organisation was principally concerned with the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe and how to counter it, in particular explaining to the European Parliament and European leaders the need for vigorous action on the issue.

Mr Blair received no fee or remuneration for this position. Dr Kantor gave an annual charitable donation to the Institute for its work on combating extremism and anti-Semitism, equivalent to supporting around two members of staff.
