Mathew Sim
Senior Economic Policy Advisor
Mathew is an expert on economic growth, trade and macroeconomic policy, focusing on how governments can design resilient strategies in an era of geopolitical fragmentation, technological change and climate transition. He leads the Institute’s work on UK growth policy, analysing productivity, labour markets and competitiveness.
Prior to joining TBI, Mathew was deputy director for strategy at the UK Department for Business & Trade, where he helped lead economic analysis underpinning the government’s growth and trade strategy. He previously spent more than a decade at the Bank of England in senior economist and risk roles, working across monetary policy, financial stability and market operations during the global financial crisis, euro area crisis and Brexit.
