Following the sad news of the death of Manmohan Singh, who served as India's prime minister from 2004 until 2014, Tony Blair offered the following tribute:
“I worked with Manmohan Singh for several years when he was India’s prime minister and also after I left office.
“He was the kindest, most gentle and unassuming political leader I ever met, but also one of the most clever. He was a true servant of India and the world, and deserves a place of honour in the history of both.
“I offer my deep condolences to his family.”
