Chapter 1
Today, 1st December, we are registering Tony Blair’s new not for profit organisation with Companies House.
The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) has been established with the focus of trying to make globalisation work for all. This includes helping countries, their people and their governments alleviate poverty, raise the standard of living, foster religious and cultural tolerance and advance peace and reconciliation.
Underpinning these aims will be a policy solutions unit and thought leadership element which will draw on the best ideas in both public and private policy spheres and drive forward practical solutions to some of today’s global challenges.
Mr Blair will be the sole owner and Executive Director of TBI. On his instruction, the articles of association show that he will not receive any salary or remuneration for this role.
Further appointments to the TBI board will be announced in due course.
We have also registered information to show that Mr Blair will transfer his ownership of Windrush Ventures Limited (WVL) to TBI. Ownership of WVL is being transferred to provide the seed funding for TBI and ensure the continuity of operations, which includes existing staff contracts and new premises. WVL will be dissolved during the course of next year.
As we have already announced, Mr Blair is gifting the entirety of the substantial reserves in WVL, around £8m, to TBI.
